For any printer owner, knowing how to properly put and replace ink in a printer is important as it is something you will need to do frequently. If the insertion style is wrong, it may malfunction and not be able to print anything until it is fixed. This blog is intended to explain the right way to insert ink cartridges for three major printer brands, Canon, HP and Epson. Each of the brands have its own unique way to insert ink.

Open the Ink Chamber

Although the ink tray opening mechanism will be different with each brand, the ink placement begins by opening the ink tray. One of the black Ink cartridges that are of similar quality is Brother Genuine Standard Yield Cartridge.

  • Canon

Canon Pixma printers are easy to operate and all that you need to do is just open the lid. Usually, it also contains support to hold up the lid while it is open. The ink tray is located in the centre of the machine. The holder will automatically move behind the headcover to expose the ink tray. One of the best inks that are compatible with TR4520, MX492, MG2520, MG2922, TS302 and TS202 Printers is Canon PG-243/ CL-244 Multipack Ink.

  • HP

HP printers usually have colored cartridge towards the left slot and black ink on the right slot. When the top lid of the printer opens, the old ink should roll on to the right-side tray.

  • Epson

Epson printers operate on an easy mechanism of start and stop. Once you open the lid of the printer, press the stop button located on the right-hand side of the control panel. If you press stop again, the cartridge will automatically move into replacement position for you to take out.

Now that you know about the top brands, it is advisable that you read through the blog that helps you understand the reasons why printer ink is so expensive.

Replacing the Cartridge

To remove the old cartridge and dispose of them in the right way. You need to pull out the old cartridge, make sure to keep it away from pets and children as it can be harmful if ingested.

  • Canon

Touch the cartridge gently and push down. The old cartridge will dislodge automatically. Remember to collect the colored cartridge from the left-hand side and black ink cartridge from the right-hand side.

  • HP

For HP as well, all you need to do is to push the cartridge down a bit and it will dislodge automatically. Remember to not push is very hard or it may break.

  • Epson

Epson printers commonly have a clip, on top of the cartridge. Press the clip with your left hand and with the right hand, using your index and thumb, gently lift the cartridge.

Get Ready to Open the New Cartridge

Unpacking the cartridge correctly is quite important as the cartridges tend to easily damage even with the slightest pressure.

  • Canon

Unpack the cartridge and the electrical section will be exposed. Handling the electrical section wrongly can create problems when printing.

  • HP

Remove the protective strip around the cartridge by pulling the pink tab. Once the copper electrical contact area is exposed, place the cartridge inside the printer.

  • Epson

Shake the cartridge before pulling it out of the packet. Shaking the cartridge after pulling out may cause ink leakage. Make sure to not touch the green zones as it may cause the ink to dry up. So make sure, you understand ways to prevent the ink from drying out.

Insert and Place the Cartridge

  • Canon

Place the colored ink inside the C holder, while place the black ink inside B holder. Push the cartridge gently till it sits with a click. Remember, the print nozzles should face towards the printer away from you. Canon PG-245 Black Ink Cartridge is one of the best available blank cartridges that is compatible with most of the devices.

  • HP

While placing cartridges in HP printers, the copper electricity section is towards the bottom. The printing ink nozzle is facing the printer. Tilt the cartridge slightly and push it into its respective slot gently. Insert color ink on the left and black ink on the right.

  • Epson

Pull the yellow stripe from the new cartridge and the yellow paper should face towards the bottom. The rest of the cartridge should be towards the back of the printer.

Close the Ink Tray

  • Canon

Once you close the ink tray, a green indicator light should blink repeatedly. That means it went well. Once the light changes to 1, the printing starts.

  • HP

This process is simple. Simply close the cover, and change the settings in HP solution center. Once you align the print, it will start printing. HP 902XL Black Ink Cartridge offers high-quality prints.

  • Epson

Close the lid and press the red Stop button. The power button will start blinking and as it becomes stable, you can begin your printing.

Troubleshooting

  • Leakage of the Cartridge

Leakage is one of the frequent issues that you face if your printer is malfunctioning. If the cartridge was shaken after being out of its packaging, the cartridge tends to spill over. Thus, make sure to keep the minimum time between taking out the old cartridge and replacing it with the new one.

  • Accidental Contact or Consumption

If the ink accidentally touches your skin, it can cause rashes. However, if you wash it with soap and water the ink goes away. If you have accidentally consumed the printer ink, then its best to consult a physician.

  • Correct Installation

Generally, in every printer, once the ink is installed an indicator blinks to indicate the correct installation. However, if it blinks red, then stop the machine and reinstall again.

Inferior Print

Poor print quality is an indication of a clogged nozzle head that cannot distribute the ink evenly. To clean the clogging, use a cotton ball and some alcohol to dab on the nozzle and leave it. The nozzle head will start working fine gradually.

Sometimes, the ribbon head also causes bad quality printing. If the ribbon slightly breaks away, then printing issues come. A very common reason for bad printing is an uninterrupted communication. Thus, check all cables and restart the system again.

Conclusion

We understand that different brands call for different ways of installing the ink cartridge, and that can get confusing. However, a branded printer of Inkjet printers or computer printers usually comes with a detailed instruction manual to help you with the installation. If you are planning to buy ink online, make sure to read the return policy, in case you order a wrong size.
