If you are using an Air tight Tupperdor container, the optimal humidity is 65%, and if you are using an old school wooden desk top, the higher humidification will suit you better.
It's easy to tell when it needs replacing because it goes hard, but it takes out all the trial and error and constant monitoring that can sometimes be required with a humidor.
Despite their ugly appearance, Tupperware humidors are the best option as they don't leak humidity and can be filled with cedar trays.
It's a really easy idea to keep your cigars in the right humidity. The first one lasted me just over 3 months in a humidor with 30 cigars.
If you put a smoke near the end of the third quarter you will find the leaf inside to be very wet, as the first half of the moisture burning off from the first half should saturate the end of the cigar.
