The maximum output speed is limited to 2.4 GHZ, regardless of which combination I use. I get 350 MBPS out of my wifi router at 5 GHZ, but only 63 MBPS out of this extender at 5 GHZ.
90% found the dual band capability helpful, but 10% faced issues
The maximum throughput of the booster on both bands is 32Mbps/96Mbps.
The extender is not suitable for high speed 5 GHZ relay.
Once I connected to the device via wifi, my speed dropped from 35-45mbs to 17-23mbs. My laptop only operates on the 2.4 band.
When I enabled OneMesh on both my router and the Extender, it shut off the 2.4ghz on the Extender.
92% appreciated the coverage range, although, 8% found dead zones
The TP-Link AC1200 WiFi Extender (RE315) works great for extending the WiFi range to accommodate additional devices like Amazon Echo, Bass, iPhones, and Security Cameras located at the far end of the house.
I installed the wifi extender in a corner of the house behind a hot-water heater and washer/dryer. The high-end router (WiFi6 on a gigabit fiber connection) was only 50 ft away, but the wifi signal was badly degraded.
The ethernet nic is cheap and not a gigabit ethernet port, but a 10/100 port. When I transferred things to my server room, everything got bottlenecked down to 10 Mb/S.
TP-LINK WIFI extenders have a security issue that weakens a secure WiFi network. Despite complaints for over a year, there is no firmware fix or planned fix from TP-LINK.
This wifi extender gave me 50-80mbps in a distant room where I was getting barely 1-2mbps from the native ASUS router. It also tells you exactly where the sweet spot is for distance from your native router to maximize coverage.
