The art to sew your pillow cover is an amazing way of decorating and setting up your room in tasteful décor. If you want to add some bright pop of color to your living room or bedroom, covering your pillows is a great idea.

Buying new pillows with pillow covers adds extra comfort and enhances the experience. However, buying a new cover for each pillow can get expensive, especially if you want to go with a wide variety of colors and patterns. Sewing will also help you to stitch throw pillow covers as well to decorate those couches and futons.

Did you know you can sew some amazing pillow covers as per your aesthetic and the cost will also be considerably less? If not, this blog is the right place for you. Let’s learn how to sew pillow covers today.

Choose the Fabric of Your Pillow Cover

Before proceeding, choose the fabric you want to go with. Keeping in mind the decor of your place where you want to keep your pillows is always helpful. Go with fabrics that are weather neutral and comfortable.

Wash and Iron Fabric of Your Pillow Cover

This step should be performed before you plan to sew your pillow cover with Pllieay sewing kits. The hot wash can shrink the fabric. Iron to remove all the folds as well as creases.

Bring all the Tools Together

All the things you would need are :

  • ½-1 yard of the fabric chosen
  • Matching thread
  • Scissors
  • Pen or pencil
  • Ruler
  • Measuring tape
  • Sewing machine
  • Sewing pins

Measure the Size of Your Pillow

Using the measuring tape, take the dimensions from seam to seam and add an extra inch to each side for space. Also, cut some extra small pieces for overlap with the back panel. If you are simply replacing your old pillow covers, you can measure them.

Stitch the Hems

Fold around 1/4 of each small fabric and flatten it out with an iron to stitch the hems.

Sew the Back Panel and the Main Panel Together

Take your main panel and the two smaller panels. Sew the edges side to side and pin them to the main panel with the sewing machine. Sew around all the edges and also backstitch from beginning to end.

Stuff the Pillow Inside the Pillow Cover

Cut all the extra corners and press the pillow inside the cover. You can also iron the cover to remove any creases formed.
