About Canon EOS REBEL SL3 Digital SLR Camera
78% liked the image quality
I love the excellent photo and video quality of the camera and the 4K resolution feature. I often use it with tripods.
I compared the sensor size of the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 with other P&S cameras and found that the SL3 has a much larger sensor than all but the most expensive P&S cameras.
The pictures don't look good on the screen. One has to put them on a computer or phone to really see the great quality of the picture.
The colors are correct, autofocus in live view is robust and pixel peeping leaves me with the most solid off camera jpegs I have produced so far.
83% found the camera heavy
I have noticed that Mirrorless cameras are gaining popularity due to their similarities with DSLRs and smaller form factor like the SL3. However, there are some growing pains identified by reviewers such as poor battery life, overheating, and a lack of native lens options. Based on my experience with DSLR cameras, I can say that this review provides negative feedback regarding their weight.
89% highlighted the image stabilization, however 11% found it insufficient
SL3 and native EFS (or optional EF) lenses handle motion and dim lighting better with fast, accurate autofocus, including auto-tracking of moving subjects.
I found the stability control on all my lenses (of the digital generation) to be very impressive. I was able to take sharp pictures even with a shutter speed of 1/15 while shooting handheld. I tested the handheld and tripod mounted version of the same picture side by side and could only tell the difference if I enlarged things like the stitching of a coat. This review expresses my positive feedback with respect to the feature: Image Stabilization of dslr-cameras.
Without in-body image stabilization, I need to take hand-held shots with a higher shutter speed to avoid blur.
I find the video stabilization feature inadequate, even the hands of a surgeon couldn't produce a stable video.
91% found it quick to focus, yet 9% experienced delays
Touch to focus is better than joystick focus. You can tap the screen to focus instead of relying on the camera to find focus for you.
The screen displays focus points that I can move by touch to adjust composition.
The focus system has only 9 focus points and is from a prior generation.
82% found the camera easy to connect, while 18% encountered issues
The WiFi connection is quick and easy.
It's great to link the camera to my phone to transfer pictures easily.
I tested the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connection and it worked great. I can name pictures with a handy YY-MM-DD-filename format, which keeps all my pictures in chronological order and they go into a folder properly named directly on my computer. I compared it with Nikon and had to connect with a USB cable. Having one less cable in the studio is a blessing.
Wireless connectivity is easy but slow.
88% mentioned about easy image transfer
The picture resolution, clarity, and ease of image and video transfers to other devices are great.
I have personally experienced that the SL3 can save images in both JPEG and RAW format. RAW format provides the greatest ability to post-edit and enhance photos, making it a valuable feature.
