I have always had trouble getting into coat hooks or robe hooks when I have lived in homes or in hotels, but I thought I would look for a longer one.
Our kids can reach their towels when they are hung to dry, and anything that helps with the indepence is great, as long as they reuse a towel a couple of times.
The back of the hook area has a small pad so your door won't get damaged, it's very sturdy and they fit our 8 foot doors perfectly.
The water stays on the rubber mat because of the sides or walls, and this is really important, because the cats still slobber water around the bowls.
These hooks have worked great for the tall doors in our home, we needed long hooks for them.

The picture shows two different lengths, does that mean they can be adjusted?
They are both the same length, but can't adjust it.
Does this work for towels or would they slip off easily?
You can hook 2 towels on each one, but we live in Florida so we don't double up to facilitate drying.
How far out from the door do they stick?
These are approximately 3.75" from the door.
Would the hooks support a backpack with books?
I am confident that the hooks would hold the backpack with books, because they are quite sturdy.
Is this product good for a small bathroom where we can't put it on a towel holder for the hand towel?
I have one on my bathroom door that holds our towels very well, I think so.
