I think this case is a cool way to protect the blade, whether in the kitchen drawer or during transportation. It's not necessary, but it's a nice addition.

These knife-cases-holders-protectors are the best option for storing delicate knives like Japanese ones in a drawer.
The product does an excellent job of protecting my knife with black tabs on the side of the plastic cover that grip the sides of the blade to keep it from moving around.

BladeSafe is easy to clean as it opens like a clam shell, unlike standing blade box or sheath.
