I noticed that the insert people are talking about was never attached and doesn't seem to be a permanent fixture. It's just a separator for the knives to prevent them from clanking and getting damaged.

After about a month in the case, I noticed that the knives with g10 handles developed stripes. However, my other knives with handles made of other materials were not affected. I concluded that the glue holding the red fabric down was not fully dry and fumes from the glue escaped through the slits that the black elastic straps come out through and somehow affected the g10.
