I use this to drill through walls and determine where the hole will be made, even if you make a bad hole, it is easy to cover it, it does not bend easily, and it is very sharp.

I'm inclined to trust the brand, which is historically one of the finest in America, but am not expecting the best performance at this point.

Chinese manufacturers often pay lip service to their competitors in order to out- compete. For example, there was a return to the export of lead-based paint on toys even after they poisoned some of our kids with it.

I used this to drill through the floor into the sub basement for the cable. The bit is much better than using a spade bit, and it grabs and produces a great hole with little or no splintering.

The Black Oxide Bit is stronger than a wood bit and will drill through light gauge steel without dulling the point.

    Question & Answers

    Q:

Will it drill through a cinder block?

    A:

If you're asking "if it will a once or maybe twice" instead of "if it's a cinder block and not a concrete block", you're looking at the wrong part.

    Q:

How deep can you drill with this bit? The fluting doesn't seem to cover much length.

    A:

You can go deeper in softer materials, but they are more expensive and less available than the traditional "jobbers lengths" drill bits.

    Q:

Is there an attachment for using it to drill a hole for a smoking pipe stem?

    A:

It might be possible to use a modern auger, or grind flats on the bit to use in an old one.

    Q:

Will it be able to drill through a steel fence post?

    A:

It is a good idea to consider heat and thickness of metal when using a long drill bit.

    Q:

Can a drill drive a bit through hardwood and soft wood?

    A:

It's not possible to get 4 inches of hickory, but this is up to your drill.
