About DEWALT Black Oxide Drill Bit Set with Pilot Point
Overall Feedback:
76% positive
75% appreciated its precise drilling accuracy, though 25% experienced deviation
I have used Titanium bits before and found them to be less sharp than these bits, even when new. The Titanium coating also wears off quickly, revealing poor quality metal underneath. Based on my experience, I can say that these bits are superior.
76% praised for its fast drilling speed, while 24% found it slow
I broke two 3/8ths bits while drilling through pine, indicating that the drilling speed of the jobber-drill-bits may not be sufficient for certain materials.
75% liked its long-lasting durability, but 25% experienced frequent breakage
This set of drills is good for stronger materials like machinery grade steel, stainless steel and some other strong alloys. However, it is not meant to be used with soft materials like low carbon steel, aluminium and such, and it goes through them like a hot knife into butter and probably damages the material or gets stuck. I suggest using HSS or even Cobalt drill bits for soft materials.
I have never seen bits snap in half while drilling through wood and light metal, but three of these did on separate occasions. This indicates poor durability of the product.
I have noticed that the bits do not hold their edge very long, which is a problem.
76% liked the comfortable grip design, while 24% found it slippery
For soft materials like low carbon steel and aluminum, HSS or Cobalt drill bits should be used. But for stronger materials like machinery grade steel, stainless steel, and other strong alloys, this drill set is good.
The plastic slots are too rigid for easy insertion and removal of bits.
78% found it resistant to heat buildup, but 22% experienced thermal damage
This set of drills is good for stronger materials like machinery grade steel, stainless steel, and some other strong alloys. However, it is not suitable for soft materials like low carbon steel, aluminum, and such. I suggest using HSS or even Cobalt drill bits for soft materials.
I noticed that the drill bits are thinner, causing rapid heat buildup at the cutting edge due to less mass for heat dissipation.
75% praised for its versatility in drilling various materials
The drill bits are not suitable for soft materials like low carbon steel, aluminium, etc. For such materials, HSS or even Cobalt drill bits should be used. However, for stronger materials like machinery grade steel, stainless steel, and some other strong alloys, this is a good set of drills if used for what they were designed for.
I have used Titanium bits before and found them to be less sharp than these bits, even when new. The Titanium coating also wears off quickly, revealing poor quality metal underneath. Based on my experience, I can say that these bits are superior.
The drill bits have a 135-degree split-point tip design, ensuring accurate drilling and reduced walking, allowing for clean and precise holes in various materials.
The drill bits are not precise as the tip angle varies too much and they are out of round.
