About Midea 4,500 Sq. Ft. Energy Star Certified Dehumidifier with Reusable Air Filter 50 Pint 2019 DOE
Overall Feedback:
71% positive
82% appreciated the quiet operation, but 18% found it loud
The noise level of the dehumidifier doesn't bother me at all. It sounds like a humming sound.
Based on placement, the noise level is not a distraction.
During the first couple of hours of operation, the compressor was noisy, but then there were no weird noises, rattles or buzzing.
The biggest factor in my purchase was the sound/noise of the dehumidifier. My old dehumidifier was so loud that it sounded like a diesel generator. Based on my experience, I can say that the user has faced this problem personally.
The handles are large, making it fairly easy to lift and move the bucket and unit itself.
I found the wheels to be big enough to move the dehumidifier smoothly on the basement floor.
The dehumidifier is somewhat portable and can be carried upstairs with some effort. It works more efficiently in the living or dining room where humidity drops quickly.
The machine is heavy and even I had a hard time moving it around.
76% were satisfied with the drainage, but 24% encountered challenges
I like the drainage option and have attached a hose on the back which allows the water to drain into the drain pipes without the need for manual emptying.
I hooked up a hose to the back of the removable water collection bucket to allow continuous operation, emptying into a drain.
Not having to empty the container every day or two is a great feature.
This dehumidifier is suitable for those who don't have a place to drain dehumidifiers in bucketless mode.
Like most dehumidifiers, I can still use the same dehumidifier in a more convenient mode with the included passive drain feature if I move somewhere with easy access from the dehumidifier to an outlet.
I recommend placing the dehumidifier near a location for easy emptying or using the gravity drain due to the lack of a pump.
I have kept the dehumidifier on its base, on the floor, draining into the pump.
At this price, I believe the product should come with a pump and constant drain hose.
I tried to connect a hose to the external drain option, but it failed to work for me.
If you aren't using the drain, you will have to lift the dehumidifier off the bucket to dump the water, so objects can't be parked on top that can't frequently be removed.
I need to lift the moderately heavy dehumidifier unit to detach it before I can carry the bucket to a drain, even if I only want to empty the bucket after a small amount of water is accumulated.
67% found the filter maintenance hassle-free, however 33% struggled
This dehumidifier has a unique feature of easy access to the evaporator coil without taking it apart.
The air filter is easily accessible from the back and can be removed and cleaned easily, making it user-friendly.
I couldn't find any way to remove and clean the filter. I had to take a vacuum to it and it's easy enough but you will need a brush style attachment as the filter is behind some deep grooves meaning the brush will be needed to agitate that dust out of the filter and into your vacuum.
I have been trying to get a response from customer service for more than a week about accessing the filters.
73% liked the energy-efficient design, although 27% desired more
I have noticed the amount of energy consumed by the dehumidifier in different modes.
The dehumidifier consumes different amounts of energy in different modes.
The dehumidifier consumes 352W and pumps out warm, dry air in the top exhaust.
I am unsure about the energy efficiency of the dehumidifier, but it seems fine to me.
I bought a dehumidifier in 2015 that was one of the lowest energy users available. It consumed 50 watts less than the Frigidaire unit I replaced.
The noise level is very low compared to dehumidifiers I have used in the past.
