I found that the adhesive dots held pretty well, but for added peace of mind, I supplemented with some tape around the edges to ensure it stayed in place. This indicates that the adhesive strength of the window-insulation-kits is good enough to hold the insulation sheet in place, but I wanted to be extra cautious.
