The new app has inherited all the aged and unintuitive design of the old one, added no new feature and ruined some key features.
I am disappointed with the app interface as it is bad and fails to set up my own devices. I am frustrated with its performance.
In my experience, the equipment's functionality doesn't add up to a great mesh network solution, although the user interface with the app is cool.
86% praised the coverage area, but 14% found dead spots
The Google mesh system exceeded my expectations both inside and outside of the house, providing solid WiFi coverage on the patios and well beyond for my wireless camera. The signal strength improved from a best case of 55% to more than 90%, giving solid video connections without drops in service. I also tested the coverage out to 135 feet from the exterior walls of my house, which opens up many options for better camera placement that I never had.
After moving the units around, I got coverage throughout my 2400 sq ft house. It took exact positioning and putting one unit up near the ceiling.
The signal starts to drop off before the lawn ends and is weak at the street. The house's distance from the street affects the coverage area of our whole-home-mesh-wi-fi-system.
The coverage area of 4500 sq ft is not true.
90% liked the customizable settings, yet 10% found them limited
The Google Home app isn't too bad, but it requires digging into settings to manually change the IP subnet.
I have noticed that the router does not have customizable interfaces and cannot be managed through a web browser. Instead, the app must be used to manage attributes like port forwarding and traffic management. I would prefer the option to manage the router through a desktop.
Advanced settings are almost non-existent.
The user interface is bare and I cannot customize anything for my signal like adding a guest band, and a 2ghz or 5ghz band.
I do not like being automatically opted-in and suggest turning off all telemetry if you do not appreciate it.
89% found it easy to set up
Setting up the router is simple and easy.
Setting up this WiFi mesh network is very easy and can be done in under 10 minutes.
77% liked the ability to support many devices
I have 43 devices connected to the wifi product and it is handling it easily.
I have over 50 wifi devices in my 3-story, 800 sq ft home.
83% appreciated the performance, but 17% experienced issues
The Google Wifi three pack performs better than my previous onHubs. The wifi speeds are faster, but I haven't noticed any difference in my day-to-day devices. It just works like the onHubs they replaced.
The device supports dual-band Wi-Fi with AC1200 standards, ensuring a speedy and reliable connection for all devices.
My router's speed is 590+ while the final point sits around 390.
Initially, the performance was mediocre with speeds of 100mbps throughout the house. However, with each firmware update, the speed kept dropping.
79% were impressed with the security features, although 21% weren't
I can disconnect the internet from the entire house or set off times to shut off the internet with the device's good security features. It also ensures a secure internet connection.
I was unable to access certain areas with my security cameras due to network limitations. However, after meshing the network, it is now easier to manage my security system.
Our system has an extra layer of security even if hackers get into our local network.
I desire a whitelist feature to be integrated into the software for this router, which would allow me to approve devices before they can connect to the network.
For me, the product's parental control is poor and it only works with WPA3 security. Additionally, I have to agree to send my data for Google usage and analytics.
The Google Home App has a basic but effective interface and covers all the devices in my smart home. It also has features like testing mesh strength, download speed, and current download usage. There are plenty of settings to tweak if I am a tweaker.
The app is filled with ads and tries to open web pages every time I open my phone.
