About American Red Cross Emergency NOAA Weather Radio
Overall Feedback:
84% positive
68% liked the long-lasting battery life, while 32% experienced short battery life
I am disappointed with the battery life of this weather radio. It is almost useless except in emergency situations.
80% praised for its rugged design, but 20% experienced broken parts
The weather radio has solar, hand crank, onboard rechargeable battery and can charge cell phones, which is important in any survival situation.
I am disappointed with the durability of the radio as it should be able to withstand moisture and humidity, but it does not.
I suggest wiring two batteries in parallel to ensure electronic reliability as the device currently has a single cell non-redundant battery.
I have complained that the radio is prone to falling over even after a small drop due to its top-heavy design and narrow base, indicating poor durability.
76% found the interface easy to use, while 24% found it confusing
Once I read the instructions, the radio and light are easy to use and work well.
It's easy to stow in the emergency bag because the dials/controls are safely located and not easily damaged during transit or use.
The radio is easy to use with a straightforward tuning control system and clock/alarm setting system. However, it has poor FM reception and no ability to keep the backlight on for a longer time in a dark room.
77% liked its compact and lightweight design, while 23% found it bulky
It is easy to carry in an emergency bag as the dials/controls are safely located and not easily damaged during transit or use.
There are no options to use everyday batteries.
70% praised for its loud and clear sound, but 30% experienced poor audio quality
I was surprised by the great sound quality of the weather radio, despite its small size.
The volume goes from off to loud and sounds like it is in stereo.
Although the radio gets the job done, the sound quality is lacking.
I have not tested the battery life of the weather radio yet, but I tried it out of the box and it worked with a little juice. I also fully charged and tested it again and it worked.
To maintain the battery life, I recommend using and charging the radio every 3 months.
