I have used the walkie-talkies and they have survived everything I have thrown at them, including jostling on the trail.

The range of our walkie-talkies is amazing. We were able to go 2.5 miles away from each other with zero interruptions in signal. Beyond that, it became a bit more choppy, but we could still communicate with each other.
I can achieve the claimed range of 5 miles with clear line of sight and both parties outside.
I tested the walkie-talkies by driving away from the house and noting the distance between them. The range of these walkie-talkies is somewhere between 8/10 and 9/10 of a mile, which I think is pretty impressive.

I was surprised by the crisp audio quality of the walkie-talkies. My wife and I tested them by positioning ourselves on opposite sides of our house and could hear each other quite clearly.
When the radios are too close to each other, the sound quality is poor, but it gets really good once they are a little further apart.
