The rubber coating of the coiled cable of my walkie-talkie is splitting and there is an oily greasy substance leaching from the cable.

I tested the walkie-talkie's range in various situations and achieved clear sound and transmission. I got 10 miles in one scenario and at least 5 miles while both vehicles were moving through winding canyons/mountain passes.
I tested the radio for range with my Motorola handheld and was disappointed with the range of only about .75 mile.

We could hear each other loud and clear with the amazing sound quality of the Midland handheld units.
The outgoing audio is extremely low and even after turning the volume to maximum, I could barely hear the audio. After a few minutes, there was no audio output at all.
I have noticed that the squelch action is not very good with a very annoying crash when it closes. It doesn't hold our repeater open and I think the low audio is also sending distorted subaudible tones.
I have noticed that the receiving stations struggle to hear my transmitted audio and have to turn their volume up to barely make out the audio.
