I find it very easy to clean the waffle iron. I stand it up right on a paper towel so the steam can run out as it cools. After it is fully cooled, I take a damp paper towel or sponge and quickly wipe out the plates.
I find it surprisingly easy to clean the waffle iron even though the plates are not removable. I just run it under hot water and let it dry overnight before using it again.
