I faced compatibility issues with the USB-to-VGA adapter and couldn't identify the device with Windows. I downloaded and installed the driver from the website written on the package and rebooted the computer to make it work.
I switched the device to USB 3.0 from USB 2.0 and it resulted in a much better picture on the display monitor.
Check if your USB is 3.0. If not, it may not mirror/extend correctly and work with the lowest resolution.
The adapter worked with my ASUS 515 laptop's USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A plug and provided a 1080 signal, but the colors were a little muted.
