Once the drivers are set up, the device works perfectly and connects automatically very nicely.
I found a suitable adapter from tp-link that was plug and play, connecting almost immediately.
I need to install the latest Realtek driver for the device to work on Linux.
I tried to use the adapter under Linux but it did not work due to the RTL8811AU chipset having no Linux drivers as of Sept 2022.

Using the USB-network-adapter is easy. It only requires plugging it in to USB, installing software and restarting, and costs $15.
