About Anker USB C Hub, PowerExpand 8-in-1 USB C Adapter, with 100W Power Delivery
Overall Feedback:
90% positive
86% appreciated the number of ports, yet 14% required more
I listed the specific ports available on the hub: 1 USB-C data port, 1 USB-C Power Delivery Port, 2 USB-A data ports, 1 HDMI port, an Ethernet port, and a microSD/SD card reader.
I have multiple USB ports, SD card slots, and even an Ethernet port, which I have been longing for.
The USB hub has ports for USB drives, SD cards, HDMI and more, all accessed through the USB C port on my computer.
I needed 3 USB-C ports but my MacbookPro only had 2. This mini-hub added the extra ports I needed to connect just about anything.
If you want to use all the ports at once, you need to have the power/PD plugged in since the unit needs power to sustain all the ports at the same time.
I have used other hubs with 3+ USB A ports and wished for the same in the Anker product.
The Anker 555 hub had more ports than I needed, but it caused cable management issues with cables coming out in all 4 directions.
86% liked the variety of port types
I find the two USB-C ports useful for charging the device and attaching a SSD for faster transfer speeds.
83% praised the data transfer speed
I use the USB hub to transfer photos and files to an external HDD for backups on my MBA.
89% praised the wide compatibility, but 11% encountered issues
I tried to download the firmware update for Mac OC from the Anker website but the app was incompatible with my Mac.
I have tried a different USB-C hub and it works with both controllers, whereas this Anker hub is not compatible with one of the controllers.
The product works well with my iPad Pro, but the usb-c cable is too short. I had to place the hub on top of a stack of books. It doesn't recognize my external hard disk, but my SSD and flash drives work fine.
77% appreciated the cable length, but 23% required longer cables
The cable length is too short and there is no flexibility if I move the laptop.
My only complaint with the hub is that the cable for connecting it to the computer is only about 8 inches long.
I sent an email to Anker asking if a 3 amp cable would work since the cords are not rated in volts or watts, and they confirmed it.
I listed the specific ports available on the hub: 1 USB-C data port, 1 USB-C Power Delivery Port, 2 USB-A data ports, 1 HDMI port, an Ethernet port, and a microSD/SD card reader.
I found that the USB hub cannot handle a hard drive that requires power and another device simultaneously.
