I have mounted the antenna outside and am receiving CBS and NBC in 1080p in my metropolitan area. I am 55 miles from broadcast towers with a clear line of sight. The antenna is designed to receive signals from all directions.
After moving the antenna to the other side of the TV and re-scanning, I was able to get 72 channels.

I suggest that the antenna works well, but it needs to be placed in different areas/positions to get the best signal. People who said it didn't work probably didn't try to put the antenna in different areas/positions and just gave up after the first scan.
I initially set the amplifier on 'distance' instead of 'local' and it didn't work well. But after changing it to 'local', it worked fine.

After installing and reprogramming the channels, I noticed much clarity in the pictures and it was worth the money.
I recommend moving the antenna around to find the sweet spot for clear reception and to find more channels.
I was initially nervous about the picture quality, but found that the antenna provides clear, crisp pictures and more channels than the expensive antenna.
If the antenna is bumped accidentally, I have to adjust it to get the best reception because it is very sensitive.
