I had to go to a big box hardware store and install new hoses myself, but after doing so, there were no more leaks. This shows that the installation process was not easy and required some effort.
I suggest that if I had used the hoses in a traditional manner, I would have preferred 90 degree fittings since the bend at the washer seemed to stress the hoses and caused them to kink when not pressurized.
