I suggest trying the shock levels on yourself to see that it is uncomfortable but not torture or damaging.
I started with the settings at 02 and shock at 01 because the shock on two scared my dog badly.

I have used this product for about a week and the battery life is excellent. I can go the whole week without needing to charge it.
The batteries last for a month or more even if I wear the collar nearly 24/7.
