About CELESTRON StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ Smartphone App-Enabled Telescope
Overall Feedback:
77% positive
65% appreciated the smooth and precise adjustments, while 35% found them stiff
I ordered an adjustable lens that can adjust from 21mm to 7mm.
Whenever I adjust the focus or slightly change direction or even just touch the movement control arms, the telescope causes considerable vibration.
68% praised for its durable construction, but 32% noticed scratches on the lenses
The refractor design is maintenance free and does not require collimation.
The portion of the telescope around the part that connects to the tripod is compressed inwards, indicating poor durability.
76% found it easy to set up and use
The assembly and setup of the telescope is well-documented and easy to follow, even for someone who is not an experienced technical astronomer.
With the Starsense app and my phone camera, I can align precisely using brief video clips. The gyroscope compares real-time pics in the sky to an internal star map, showing me exactly where to point to any star, planet, or deep sky object. I just follow the orange arrows until the display shows a green box and I'm on target.
73% praised for its crystal-clear optics, while 27% noticed slight distortion
Even with the strongest magnification eyepieces, the images are not sharp and not close to what was promised by the seller.
69% praised for its versatile magnification range, but 31% found it limited
I attached low and high magnification images captured through my smartphone because no one has posted any images of captures from this scope.
Observing the sky with lower magnification settings like 25mm or 30mm is enjoyable.
Even with the 10mm eyepiece, I cannot view planets like Jupiter or Saturn with significant magnification.
73% liked its compact and lightweight design
The portability of this telescope-refractor makes me want to use it more. Plus, I wouldn't have had storage space for a 10" dobsonian scope anyway.
67% liked the sturdy and balanced design
The telescope is quite stable, but still wobbly while looking at far objects after adjustment, but it easily settles after a few moments.
The tripod is not very sturdy and can be easily moved by wind.
