I used this method to remove iron stains on my pool's vinyl liner and it worked great. I mixed ascorbic acid powder with water in the applicator and let it sit on the stains. It worked like a Magic Eraser by sliding the applicator across the liner, removing discoloration that covered almost the entire bottom of the pool.
It is important to let the sponge sit on the stain for a few minutes at a time, otherwise it may discolor the plaster of the pool.
