About Stanley 47-400 Magnetic Stud Finder - Black
Overall Feedback:
83% positive
74% found it to be highly accurate in detecting studs
I found that the stud finder is a magnet on a pivot that is attracted to nails holding onto wooden studs on the wall. It works if you understand what it is doing and there is no need to worry about poor analogue sensing circuitry or poor detection algorithms.
The stud finder can detect nail and/or screw heads even if they are lightly covered with texture and paint on the walls.
76% found the battery life to be sufficient for my needs, but 24% experienced frequent draining
The product is indestructible and a marvel of engineering.
I now have 3 holes in my ceiling because the stud finder found studs all over the place.
76% appreciated the clear and easy-to-read screen display, though 24% found it cluttered
I explained that the stud finder is a cylindrical magnet pivoted inside a plastic housing.
I found that the stud finder has a yellow magnet that shows the location of the stud with a small jump when swiped across the wall.
I found that the Stanley stud finder located studs all over, causing 3 holes in the ceiling.
81% found it to be built with durable materials, while 19% experienced issues with fragility
If the magnet is accidentally bumped, be cautious as it may cause a false positive.
I am disappointed with the poor build quality of the product. The yellow part has so much friction that the magnet is not strong enough to rotate it, even when testing directly with metal.
While using the tool, I noticed that it jiggles back and forth along the wall, making it difficult to determine if it is reacting to a stud or just shaking as usual. Additionally, the magnet is too weak to catch a piece of metal from any distance.
79% appreciated its user-friendly interface, while 21% found it confusing
The stud finder can detect nail and/or screw heads even if they are covered in a light coat of texture and paint on our walls.
I find the design of this tool inconvenient for marking as it requires movement unlike the Johnson tool with its center split.
85% liked its lightweight design for easy portability, but 15% found it too bulky
The stud finder responds quickly even when not very close due to its strong magnet.
I found the stud finder to be small and a magnet that attracts to nails on studs.
The stud finder is not very intuitive at first and not very convenient. However, it is a good buy at just a few dollars and it helped me find the stud to mount my TV.
I used the Stanley stud finder and found studs all over the place, resulting in 3 holes in my ceiling.

I have noticed that this stud finder is not accurate in finding studs even in simple applications.
