About Yamaha RX-V385
Overall Feedback:
87% positive
72% highlighted the user interface, but 28% didn't
I found the overall setup inscrutable and had to connect it to a monitor or TV to view the menus. The menus and submenus were not very logically defined, and there was an odd delay between pressing set up on the remote and the receiver response which was quite confusing. The remote was the worst I have ever encountered, with tiny buttons that hurt my fingers.
I criticize the user interface of the stereo-receiver, particularly the sub-par left/top/right/down buttons used to navigate through the onscreen menu, which are not wide enough. The thin width of the menu selector keys often results in accidentally pressing the large middle round select button while trying to scroll the setup menu.
67% were impressed with the power output, but 33% weren't
I am dissatisfied with the instruction book and the lack of power output information in the specifications page.
82% found the sound quality exceptional.
The stereo-receiver easily fills the room with great sound quality and power to drive the speakers.
96% were impressed with the multi-room capability
I added a theater room to my house and connected 5.1 speakers in the ceiling along with a Bluetooth subwoofer to the stereo-receiver.
I use the stereo-receiver in another room via wireless IR communication and cannot see the face of the unit. On screen display would be very helpful.
The stereo-receiver has restored sound to several rooms in our home from SiriusXM and now several other sources as well.
82% found it compatible, but 18% didn't
To set up the surround sound, I need to go into the settings and then into HDMI Control and set it to On.
It is not so obvious to connect a separate TV tuner to HDMI port of AV unit without a solid User guide.

I am disappointed with the user interface of the stereo-receiver. It is very basic looking and slow at responding to basic functions like turning up the volume or going into the menu (on screen). I compared it with my few year old Yamaha RX-683 and found it to be a few steps back.
The preset up or down button does not switch to the station until the select button is hit, making it impossible to sample station to station using the preset button.
The stereo-receiver displays a black bar indicating which input channel is selected with every instruction sent to the receiver or connected BD/DVD player.
