About Yamaha R-N303BL
Overall Feedback:
86% positive
75% highlighted the user interface, but 25% didn't
The preset up or down button does not switch to the station until the select button is hit, making it impossible to sample station to station using the preset button.
I appreciate the Musiccast iPhone/iPad control feature, but find the interface cumbersome. Engineers should look at other products for good examples of an elegant software interface.
Using this on wifi (AirPlay) is a pain and it drops connectivity at least twice during an evening’s worth of listening time.
95% found the sound quality exceptional, but 5% didn't
The sound quality is good, but I cannot adjust the bass and treble with the remote. There are no pre-programmed sound fields, and I have to get up and adjust it manually, which can be inconvenient when changing channels.
I am dissatisfied with the sound quality of the receiver. It only has a treble and bass adjustment and nothing else.
82% were impressed with the multi room capability, but 18% weren't
The app claims to control wireless speakers in multiple rooms via the R-N303BL which feeds them audio streams via local Wi-Fi links.
The stereo-receiver has an A/B speaker zone setup which allows me to connect two zones into one receiver. However, I can only play the same source on the speakers and cannot turn off/on a zone from the MusicCast app, limiting the multi-room capability of the stereo-receiver.
83% were satisfied with the connectivity options, but 17% weren't
I primarily use Apple AirPlay to send music from my computer and cell phone to the receiver, and it works really well so far.
I can control the receiver through my home network using the Miracast app and play over the air radio, internet radio and stream music using AirPlay.
I have digital connectivity options on my stereo-receiver, including optical and coax inputs that can be used separately from the analog inputs.
I was not able to achieve connectivity with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi even with the basic configurations as per the manual when I first set it up.
85% found it compatible, but 15% didn't
I faced difficulty setting up the stereo-receiver and couldn't get it on WiFi. Later, I found out that it's not compatible with using guest Wi-Fi. I switched to using the standard Wi-Fi network and it worked on the first try.
91% were satisfied with the build quality and durability
The stereo-receiver is solid and of good quality for the price. Yamaha has always had a reputation for the high quality of its 'Natural Sound' line of audio gear.
The preset up or down button does not switch to the station until the select button is hit, making it impossible to sample station to station using the preset button.
I am dissatisfied with the onscreen user interface of the stereo-receiver. Specifically, I have noticed chunky white-on-black text and sluggish response to buttons on the remote.
I am disappointed with the user interface of the stereo-receiver. It is very basic looking and slow at responding to basic functions like turning up the volume or going into the menu (on screen). I compared it with my few year old Yamaha RX-683 and found it to be a few steps back.
