About Pioneer VSX-1020-K 7.1 Home Theater Receiver
Overall Feedback:
70% positive
78% were satisfied with the connectivity options, but 22% weren't
I find that iPod connection is easy and provides a great way to listen to my iPod material. I can control the iPod either from the iPod or using the remote.
Internet connectivity is surprisingly good. This unit can connect with the stream address and comes pre-programmed with several stations. They are easy to change using a web interface accessible from your computer's internet browser through the home network. Simply access the unit through its IP address to see, change, and connect to the pre-programmed stations.
I considered features like AM & FM radio, internet streaming, easy iPod connectivity, and front HDMI port while purchasing the stereo-receiver.
The device has internet radio built-in, is IP configurable, has a device-specific iPhone App, is free, and has universal compatibility with FIOS and Cable remotes.
The only downside of internet connectivity is the lack of applications like Pandora or other emerging technologies. But, if it's a trade-off for the price, I find it acceptable.
81% highlighted the user interface, but 19% didn't
The unit has a nice feature of hiding unused inputs, which simplifies operation and removes clutter.
It is difficult to configure all the speakers without a graphical representation of their location on screen.
78% were impressed with the power output
My speakers are very inefficient and the stereo-receiver drives them much louder than I would ever listen to them.
My top issues are performance sound quality and outputs to set up my systems outboard power amps and speakers. I use a simple voltage divider circuit to adapt each cable to line level on L-R fronts and sub woofers channels not directly connected to the receiver but outboard larger power amps.
77% were impressed with the multi-room capability
I have been using the wide listening mode and found it effective in providing a broader sound array for my wide room.
The stereo-receiver has multi-room capability with two different ways to provide audio to a different room.
I find that iPod connection is easy and provides a great way to listen to my iPod material. I can control the iPod either from the iPod or using the remote.
I am dissatisfied with the user manual of the Pioneer Stereo Receiver VSX-534. It appears to have been written by techs who are trying to impress their peers with how complicated they can make it.
I spent weeks figuring out that the internal EQ has 3 settings and it was on the wrong one. I don't know why there are 3 settings.
