About Onkyo TX-8270 2 Channel Network Stereo Receiver
Overall Feedback:
81% positive
88% found the sound quality exceptional, but 12% didn't
I am disappointed with the sound quality of the stereo-receiver. It sounds weak and boring compared to my 40W NAD from the 80s which sounds 5x more powerful.
When I connect anything to the internet, the sound quality on this receiver is terrible. However, it is good otherwise.

I can use my tablet to stream music services with the Onkyo TX-8270 receiver after downloading the Onkyo Controller app. I can turn on the receiver, choose a Pandora station, and adjust the volume, treble, base, subwoofer volume, etc.
I can control both zones from the app and turn on zone 2 without turning on the main receiver, which is a really nice feature in a whole house setup.

With a wired connection, I can only talk to a Mac through Airplay, which caps everything to 16/44. This is not ideal as I am paying a premium for a 24/192 capable DAC.

I compared the sound quality of Onkyo and Denon stereo-receivers. Onkyo has a brighter upper midrange/lower treble sound, but its lower midrange and bass are not as sharp and clear as Denon's, despite having 20 extra watts. I had to tone down the sound using the unit's audio equalizer, but it didn't fix the problem well.
The Onkyo model doesn't like being shutdown by a blackout, even though it goes through a top-rated surge protector. The power loss doesn't affect the unit's performance, but it does require resetting to factory settings to pass audio signals again.
