About Onkyo TX-8260 2 Channel Network Stereo Receiver
Overall Feedback:
91% positive
86% highlighted the user interface, but 14% didn't
I initially found the volume control too-fine grained, but later discovered that it is speed sensitive, making big adjustments when turned fast and fine adjustments when turned slowly.
I find this stereo-receiver easy to use as it only uses one button to select A/B/AB speaker sets, unlike my prior Denon which had 2 buttons to independently control speakers. The single button sequencing through the speaker A/B options doesn't bother me, but it may vary for others.
I noticed a small bug in the stereo-receiver where presets don't get fully cleared if I want them in a specific order. Additionally, if I assign a bunch of stations to presets and then reassign stations, the front-panel buttons will continue to show the original preset numbers, making it difficult to find out what BGM means.
I find the labels on the stereo-receiver hard to see due to gray lettering on black, which looks hi-tech from afar but is illegible in anything but the brightest light. I needed a flashlight every time while setting it up.
77% found the sound quality exceptional, but 23% didn't
The sound quality of Onkyo TX-8260 is okay, but considerable fiddling with the controls is required to achieve that level.
85% were impressed with the power output, but 15% weren't
I have to play the stereo-receiver at different power output levels for different types of listening.
The stereo-receiver has a power output of 80 watts x 2 of RMS power, which doubles to 160 watts for speakers running at 6 ohms.
When I connected the stereo-receiver to my floorstanding speakers in the living room, it showed its power limits compared to my other 2x120 W stereo system, even at moderate levels.
74% were impressed with the multi room capability, but 26% weren't
I connected the unit to floorstanding speakers in my living room and found that it had power limitations compared to my other 2x120 W stereo system, even when played at moderate levels.

I have used the Android app to fully control the receiver, which is a convenient feature. It's great for convenience.
I can connect 2 speakers, plug in my digital cable from my computer and play high quality digital music. I can also control the wifi connection of the stereo through an app on my phone and bluetooth.
79% found it compatible, but 21% didn't
The music synchs flawlessly with no echo or delays, even though I don't know how the technology works.
I faced compatibility issues with the stereo-receivers while trying to get the Fire Connect receiver to communicate with the Fire Connect speakers that I purchased to work with my turntable. I tried a couple of Onkyo receivers to see if it was just a model issue, but none of them worked.
I initially found the volume control too-fine grained, but later discovered that it is speed sensitive, making big adjustments when turned fast and fine adjustments when turned slowly.
I found the setup of the stereo-receiver easy and appreciated the speaker outputs accepting banana plugs, the subwoofer output, and labeled RCA inputs.
I compared the sound quality of Onkyo and Denon stereo-receivers. Onkyo has a brighter upper midrange/lower treble sound, but its lower midrange and bass are not as sharp and clear as Denon's, despite having 20 extra watts. I had to tone down the sound using the unit's audio equalizer, but it didn't fix the problem well.
The Onkyo model doesn't like being shutdown by a blackout, even though it goes through a top-rated surge protector. The power loss doesn't affect the unit's performance, but it does require resetting to factory settings to pass audio signals again.
