About Denon AVR-X3800H 9.4-Ch Receiver
Overall Feedback:
80% positive
68% found it compatible, but 32% didn't
I upgraded from a low-end Yamaha 7.1 receiver to add more height channels to my home theater. I am happy with the upgrade as the object-based audio model Denon/Marantz use is a lot better than the Yamaha implementation and Audyssey MultEQ XT32 does a better job of room calibration. Movies sound much better now, even though I am using the same speakers as before.
I have noticed that there is no support for legacy video, resulting in decades of devices being thrown away.
I have noticed that the stereo-receiver has trouble handshaking with HDMI sources and may display 'no signal' when switching between sources. To connect the source, I have to switch back and forth between sources or turn off and back on the receiver.
83% found the sound quality exceptional, but 17% didn't
I returned the receiver to Denon after using it for 3 days because I was disappointed with its sound quality.
The overall sound quality of my stereo-receiver seems to have suffered a little bit. I have noticed some distortions when listening to high volumes and suddenly explosions kick-in in the scene with my 5.1.4 setup. I also think my 3700 sounded cleaner.
70% were impressed with the power output, but 30% weren't
Testing shows that the power output of the Denon amping in this model is as good as the X3600H, which received superb reviews, delivering excellent power while maintaining really good specs.
I hear a loud CLICK from the chassis of my stereo-receiver every time I watch a 7 channel/ATMOS movie and my media player on the HTPC pauses or starts. It is the relay that turns on the extra amps inside the stereo-receiver that power the last two or three speakers.
90% were impressed with the multi-room capability
I love how the stereo-receiver can process a total of 11 channels + 2 subs as pre outs, it gives me a sense of future proofing.

The manual setup screens are not very intuitive and require a lot of clicking around to complete the full setup.
