The iron has an auto-shut-off feature which is a great safety feature. It shuts off automatically if left soleplate down and not moved for 30 seconds, or left vertically unmoved for 8 minutes. The red LED on the handle will blink when auto-shut-off is engaged and moving the iron will turn it on again.
I love the automatic shut off safety feature of the iron as I have been known to leave it on.
