About MRCOOL 2 to 3 Ton 18 SEER Variable Speed MrCool Universal Central Heat Pump Split System
Overall Feedback:
96% positive
75% found the ventilation options useful
I have installed a Sensi smart thermostat to control my MrCool heat pump and found it useful enough to attach a screenshot of the monthly usage report.
87% were impressed with the noise level, yet 13% found it slightly bothersome
The inside unit of our split-system-air-conditioner is extremely quiet. We replaced an old air conditioner with natural gas heat which was much louder.
I have personally experienced that the new split-system-air-conditioner is much quieter than the old furnace. Only a light fan noise can be heard from one or two vents closest to the air handler. The inverter motors turn on quietly with no jolting sound whatsoever, which helps me to sleep better at night. The outside unit is also very quiet. Based on my experience, I can say that the new air conditioner is very quiet.
I have noticed that the split-system-air-conditioner produces a strange noise at the beginning and end of running time, which exceeds the rated noise level for similar products. This indicates my dissatisfaction with the noise level feature of split-system-air-conditioners.
89% appreciated the less maintenance
I had to change the filter halfway through the first day of operation as the new unit was moving so much air. I also had to remove the registers and it blew 30 years of built up dirt out of my ductwork.
97% found it quick to install, yet 3% encountered difficulties
I had no prior knowledge of HVAC installation and this was the largest DIY project I had done to date. I faced a few minor hiccups during the installation process due to my lack of experience.
Installing the no-vac hose was pretty easy.
It took me over an hour to get the thing closed and screws in place. The installation manuals should be more detailed and helpful.
93% liked the cooling capacity
The air conditioner has cooled my home to a comfortable 71 degrees without any problem.
I compared the cooling capacity of the new air conditioner with the old one by setting the unit at 3 Tons and using a power monitor. I found that the new unit draws the same power as the old one, which justifies the 20 SEER rating.
On average, even with the fan speed turned up, I only use 1300w with my system, which is as much as a portable unit did only cooling one room.
93% liked the air filteration system
I had to change the filter halfway through the first day of operation as the new unit was moving so much air. It also blew 30 years of built up dirt out of my ductwork.
I will replace the filter that came with the system with an actual filter as the system has a filter slot.
The air-filter is different from what I'm used to. It's a wire mesh that catches things well, but it's a little difficult to get in and out.
I couldn't find information about the air filter in the manual, so I had to figure it out myself. I added a 4-inch filter box underneath the air handler instead.
I have installed a Sensi smart thermostat to control my MrCool heat pump and found it useful enough to attach a screenshot of the monthly usage report.
