About Peerless 0155505 Auto-Trac Tire Traction Chain
Overall Feedback:
89% positive
85% appreciated its durability, though 15% experienced breakage
The tensioning mechanism is made of plastic and may not be durable, but it worked fine for my trip.
The chains are made of metal and the paint appears to be powder coated. However, I must warn that getting too close to a curb may break a link. The only non-metal part is the blue ratcheting mechanism, which is made of thick Polycarbonate plastic. I am not too worried about its durability unless you get too close to a curb.
93% found it easy to install, but 7% had difficulties
The best part of the snow chains are the automatic tensioners. The cables pull out to hook on the other side and flip them closed and the spring loaded cables tighten up.
Installing the snow chains is easy and they provide excellent traction on snowy roads.
I bought a different set of snow chains that use chains instead of cables because the previous set I bought was a pain to put on. I am happy with the new set.
79% liked the high-quality chain material, but 21% found it prone to corrosion
The snow chains are made of metal with a powder-coated paint. The ratcheting mechanism is the only non-metal part and appears to be a thick Polycarbonate plastic.
I have no complaints about the quality of the snow chains and expect them to last for the entire season or even longer.
The chain quality is terrible.
77% liked the perfect size and fit, but 23% found it small
I was initially concerned about the size of the snow-chains based on some reviews, but they fit perfectly and were easy to put on if you follow the instructions.
The snow chains fit perfectly on my 2014 Honda Accord with tire size 215/55-R17.
The size of chains listed did not fit my tires and vehicle.
The size of the snow-chains did not match my tires, despite checking the information on the website and the card attached to the bag containing the chains.
I am dissatisfied with the durability of the snow-chains. They only lasted two days and broke after an hour of driving in about 6 of snow. 3 out of 4 cables broke off.
I found a helpful tip on how to install snow chains easily and neatly. I cut off the flopping end links using a bolt cutter and then secured the chains on the tires with turnbuckles from Home Depot. The installation was fast and easy.
