My first three photos taken with the 55-300 lens came out amazing and I was instantly sold.

The auto focus and manual focus work great. I attached some photos snapped at full 300mm zoom with no tripod and tested the VR by taking them on manual focus.
After encountering a bear, I learned to switch the lens to manual focus as the auto focus kept focusing on the foreground branches, ruining many shots.
