When I use the skillet, billows of smoke come off the pan without even oil or food in them yet, indicating that the skillet does not have even heat distribution.

I tried using the skillet without oil and it did not perform well in terms of non-stick performance. The egg stuck immediately and even after cleaning with soap and a bristled brush, the new pan was stained. My hopes of a non-stick pan were dashed.
