The shower filters have a lot of carbon particles in them that remove the chlorine and fluorine from your water.
I found this and it removes the hard water minerals from the water. The first thing you notice is that the water smells cleaner, fresher, than it has in the past. The first thing you notice, after the black water from the carbon runs clear, is that the water smells cleaner,

It doesn't make sense to buy just the replacement when you can get the shower head with filter.
I'm not sure if it's because it's easier to replace the filter with the entire showerhead.
Has anyone ever had more than one filter unit?
Try them on and see if it works.
