About Mold Star 15 Slow Moldmaking Silicone Rubber
82% appreciated the accurate casting results
I have cast about 10 concrete planters off the mold so far and they all come out looking great. This indicates that the product works just as intended and I am very happy with the results.
I suggest stirring slowly to avoid micro bubbles and letting it sit for a few minutes before pouring the mold based on my experience with the product.
73% praised for its versatility in material compatibility, while 27% found it only worked with specific materials
This material is compatible with sculpture-molding-casting-products and does not trigger any sensitivities like the Oomoo 30 variety of silicone did.
I found that the mold maker is not compatible with our main resin, Alumilite Clear Cast.
76% praised for its long-lasting durability
I find the product easy to use, durable and it allows for a very detailed mold.
I have tried many molding silicones from different brands, but this one is my favorite for several reasons.
67% found it easy to release the mold, while 33% struggled with it
The product is easy to release and I haven't needed mold release for my resin projects. It just pops out effortlessly!
If you want to cure an SLA Printed model with this product, you need to coat it heavily in mold release and move quickly after spraying. Otherwise, it will not cure against the resin no matter how long you wait.
The product is very sensitive. A thin layer that touched my model remained liquid, which most likely ruined both my molds inner surface and possibly my model. Even acetone (recommended on smooth ons site) didn't fully remove the liquid silicone.
72% appreciated the quick molding process, but 28% experienced some delays
It is worth the wait to set up, taking around 4-5 hours.
The pot life is 50 minutes, giving me plenty of time to work with.
It took 4 hours to cure.
77% appreciated the smooth surface finish, but 23% experienced some imperfections
I have cast about 10 concrete planters off the mold so far and they all come out looking great. I am very happy with the results.
The material is a two part concoction that cures into a soft green, rubbery substance in a decently quick amount of time. Bubbles rarely get trapped in the cured state, which is lovely.
The flexibility of the silicone can cause problems while removing the casting from the mold, resulting in a bad surface finish.
