I bought the Levoit air purifier which completely solved the problem of stale smell in my house. I can set it on Auto-Mode and forget about it. It automatically kicks on when cooking strong smelling foods (bacon) and eliminates the odor.
The air purifier was not very effective in eliminating cigarette smell except when it was very light, but it was effective in eliminating cooking smells.

On fan speed 1, I can't hear it running, on 2 I can barely hear it and on 3 and 4 I can hear it but still it is pretty quiet.
On lower speeds, this air purifier is quiet and on higher speeds, it's a bit loud, but it moves a lot of air around.
When the purifier is on high, it produces a little loud noise like a fan, but it is not unbearable.
The air purifier makes little to no noise, which is really nice.

I am satisfied with the filter efficiency of the Kedume H13 hepa replacement filter. It has a 4 stage system that reduces dust, pollen, and pet dander, with a pre-filter that catches larger debris.
I have noticed that the filter has reduced the dust-settle by 90%, significantly improving the air quality of the room.
The washable screen captures a lot of hair and dust, which is good news as it makes the filter last longer.
