About Sightmark Wraith Digital Night Vision Riflescope
Overall Feedback:
72% positive
69% appreciated the battery life, but 31% experienced frequent drain
The battery life of this rifle-scope is brief, so an external battery source is needed for longer outings.
The scope runs for about 2 hours on 4 AA batteries and the IR light weakens after 30-45 minutes of use. It's a turn-on, shoot, and turn-off affair, not ideal for locating game.
When scanning fields at 18 degrees Fahrenheit with standard lithium AA, the scope's battery life is only around 2-2.5 hours.
73% liked the magnification power, but 27% found it difficult to use
I have complained that this scope is a second focal plane scope, so the reticle does not change size when magnified. This makes the range elevation moa lines meaningless, and I have to guess where the bullets will go after they exceed the zero range.
67% praised the mounting process, though 33% raised issues
I would need an adapter to make the rail mount compatible with my bolt action rifle.
75% liked the night vision capability, but 25% found it insufficient
The standout feature of the Wraith HD is its high-definition digital imaging. The clarity and crispness of the images it produces in complete darkness are truly impressive.
The device is a camera and computer processor that provides great HD color during daylight and crisp clean BW or green tone at night.
Even with a powerful IR, the night vision capability is not good.
71% liked the weather-resistant design, while 29% didn't
Below 32 degrees, the unit does not turn on, which is not ideal for predator hunting in cold weather.
In cold weather, the scope's battery life is affected.
70% found the weight ideal, while 30% found it bulky
I find the product heavy with a brief battery life.
I realized that the weight of the scope is a significant factor. With a mild rotator cuff injury, the extra weight caused loss of fine control that I usually have with the same rifle after extended sessions of aiming/scanning.
I wanted a straightforward scope with adjustments for 100 yards and hash marks, not too fine retinal, and common sense to hit a variety of targets for my ARs.
The power dial is easy to adjust and the turret adjustments for windage and elevation stay put once zeroed.
