About Panasonic RF-P50d Pocket AM/FM Radio Silver RF-P50D
Overall Feedback:
86% positive
71% were satisfied with display and controls, whereas 29% weren't
The radio has three standard controls: an off/volume wheel, a tuning wheel, and an AM/FM band slider.
I find the controls small and difficult to manipulate with my big thumbs. It also makes it hard to tune between closely-spaced stations on the band.
The red station indicator is not mounted perpendicular to the analog dial and it flops to the right a little bit whenever I change stations. It's quite annoying for me. I'm not sure if it's a quality control issue or if there is only one string pulling it left or right.
89% were impressed with the portability
The radio is perfect for trips to the beach, picnics, softball & soccer games, etc. It is lightweight and pocket-sized.
The radio fits comfortably in a pocket, although it is slightly larger than it appears in the photos.
73% liked the frequency range, but 27% didn't
I saw an old Sony radio in the store that only tuned to 1600 KHz. The AM band was extended to 1700 KHz at least 10 years ago.
72% found connectivity options easy
The signal works great at the game without the antenna, but it doesn't work at all when going through tunnels on the way to the game.
I can receive all the FM stations available in my area with the telescopic antenna and even with a local powerhouse station nearby, it doesn't interfere with other stations.
67% appreciated the antenna length and design, while 33% struggled
I sometimes have to fiddle with the tuning and antenna, but the radio pulls in all the major FM stations quite easily.
The antenna is extendable/retractable and folds into a shallow slot in the back of the unit.
The telescoping antenna does not completely retract into the radio case. Instead, it retracts to about 4 inches and pivots at the attachment point until it is flush with the length of the set.
The controls/wheels/sliders are not smooth and the dial for changing stations is very rough. It is immensely difficult and often impossible to pinpoint an exact station because it requires a smooth scroll to keep it in that exact spot without hitting the next station up or down. The control slider for the AM/FM is also rough and getting stuck every time I slide it.
The radio has a light, compact, and sleek design, making it perfect for 'Walkman' type use with ear buds or at the gym.
