About Panasonic Portable AM / FM Radio, Battery Operated Analog Radio, AC Powered, Silver (RF-2400D)
86% appreciated the audio quality, however 14% were dissatisfied
The excellent FM audio quality is contributed by the large speaker and the red LED light is a welcome feature.
I find the audio quality of the radio dissatisfactory. The speaker is cheap and there is no bass. It becomes tiresome to listen to it for long.
93% were impressed with the portability
I have used the radio in different places like room-to-room, on deck, in a hospital room, on a picnic, at the beach.
75% liked the frequency range, but 25% didn't
I never knew that the Panasonic RF-2400 radio could bring in frequencies locally on both bands with exceptional clarity.
The radio's AM selectivity and sensitivity are well above modern standards for portables. It can pull in weaker stations during the day and overloaded frequencies at night, surpassing other radios in this price range.
I am able to tune radio stations with broadcasting frequencies that are very close, all with ZERO interference or overlapping among them.
While listening to FM, I noticed a station around 107 MHz that could be heard across the entire frequency range.
91% were satisfied with display and controls, whereas 9% weren't
The radio has a big dial on the right that allows me to change the station and dial it in with a lot of precision.
The radio reminds me of my first AM/FM radio from 50 years ago, but with a better speaker and a cartoon-like frequency display.
The bar appears crooked on the screen, making it difficult to determine the exact position on the dial.
80% found connectivity options easy
I was able to tune radio stations with broadcasting frequencies that were very close to each other, without any interference or overlapping. This was possible even though some of the transmitting towers were very close to my point of reception and others were located more than 50 miles away and just separated by 10 KHz.
86% appreciated the antenna length and design, while 14% struggled
The manual states that the radio has a built-in ferritic antenna which is about 4 inches long and thick, which may explain the very good AM reception.
I have noticed that the antenna design is not good as it only sweeps in an arch fashion and I need to turn the radio around instead of the antenna to get a station dialed in. The manufacturer could have put a swivel connection on the antenna.
