About PPLEE Emergency Radio 5-ways Powered Crank Solar Battery Operated Portable AM FM SW NOAA Weather Alert Radio
Overall Feedback:
81% positive
64% liked the frequency range, but 36% didn't
I noticed that the tuner was slightly off and the user was not able to find 92.5 FM. However, it's not a huge deal because there is plenty of room at the end of the dial so you still get the full range of frequency.
I have tuned to stations on all three bands and grew up in the days of AM/FM. As a HAM radio operator, I am used to old manual tuned radios. Younger people who are used to digital tuning may not be familiar with the loud background static, especially on AM and Shortwave.
I was surprised to find that the shortwave band actually worked on a few stations with just the very short whip antenna. I attached my own clip on SW reel antenna and reception greatly improved.
It is difficult for me to tune the short wave due to the long time it takes to step through the frequencies.
82% found connectivity options easy
I found that the radio has multiple power options, a charging port for cellphones, AM & FM radio bands, a regular flashlight with high and low beams, an LED light with high and low beams, and a loud alert siren.
81% were impressed with the portability
The device has many handy gadgets and features that make it great for camping, boats, and picnics.
I find the radio to be a handy device for emergencies or any time, with a bright flashlight, a desk light, and even a port for a phone charger. I am impressed with its portability.
68% were satisfied with display and controls
Everything works well including the radio, speaker, flashlight, reading light, and compass.
70% appreciated the audio quality, however 30% were dissatisfied
I returned the radio due to poor AM reception and sound quality compared to other radios I have purchased.
63% appreciated the antenna length and design
I attached my own clip on SW reel antenna and was surprised to see a great improvement in reception in the SW band.
I was able to receive all my local stations in a wooded area just outside the city with the use of an antenna.
I noticed that the tuner was slightly off and the user was not able to find 92.5 FM. However, it's not a huge deal because there is plenty of room at the end of the dial so you still get the full range of frequency.
I noticed that the radio has a charging port option to keep a phone charged with the internal battery. This is a good feature for those who use their phones heavily.
I found that the radio has three sources of powering the device: a built-in rechargeable battery, a solar panel, and a hand-crank that fold neatly into the back of the radio when not in use, making it easy to carry around.
The radio displays all status including battery level, time, band, and frequency on a large highly-readable backlit display. The back light can be toggled on and off to preserve battery.
