About Mesqool 5000 Weather Radio,Solar Hand Crank 5-Way Power Emergency Radio
77% were satisfied with display and controls, whereas 23% weren't
The radio displays all status including battery level, time, band, and frequency on a large highly-readable backlit display. The back light can be toggled on and off to preserve battery.
The CR1009 is an amazing upgrade from its original version with pushbutton adjustments instead of knobs.
I have a second complaint about the top light of the radio. The light faces out at me, making it difficult to see the display of the radio while the light is on. It would make more sense for the lid to open the other direction and have the light shine that way, not in my face when operating the radio.
I have two complaints about the top light of the radio. Firstly, it can be turned on even with the lid closed, and it's easy to accidentally turn it on without knowing. I suggest that the lid should have a trigger to turn the light off if it's closed, regardless of the switch being pressed to turn it on.
85% were impressed with the portability
I like the radio because it is compact and almost pocket size. It also has a clear and powerful sound that makes me believe that it is from a big radio.
I find the radio to be useful as it can be powered by solar or hand crank and has charging ports.
78% liked the frequency range, but 22% didn't
The radio can bring in FM radio from a good distance, but it is normal to not expect AM stations from outside of range due to the reality of AM transmission.
I can easily adjust frequencies for each band using the pushbutton adjustments. The frequency range for each band has been specified.
The dial lacks graduation marks, but the frequencies are written every 4 Mhz, making it possible to find the desired station.
The radio has an AM band that only increments the frequency by multiples of 10, which makes it difficult to pick up most Australian AM frequencies. This renders the radio useless in Australia.

88% found connectivity options easy, but 12% faced issues
I can charge my cell phone using the radio's multiple connectivity options like sun, USB, AC power, or manual hand cranking.
I experienced positive connectivity options with the radio, as it has SW and weather channels in addition to FM and AM.
I dislike the cell phone attachment for the hand crank and solar charger as it does not fit my Android phone.
81% appreciated the audio quality, however 19% were dissatisfied
For casual music listening in mono, the sound quality is acceptable if nothing else is available. However, I wouldn't use it to listen to music.
I bought the radio as an emergency radio and am not too concerned about the audio quality, which is not very good.
86% appreciated the antenna length and design, while 14% struggled
The shortwave radio has a built-in antenna of about 12 inches and can catch many shortwave stations from different countries.
I needed to add a long antenna to the radio for it to work great. I used a copper wire of 3 feet long and it worked much better.
I suggest improving the product by having a longer and better antenna. I had a hand-crank radio years ago with an antenna at least twice as long, and it worked much better.
