I installed the protective shield wet by spraying the sticky side with alcohol to line up the seams almost perfectly.
I had a hard time installing the protective shield and got air bubbles. However, I found a solution by spraying a water/dish soap combo underneath the tape to loosen it up and pull on the tape. I also suggest using a squeegee when installing, and pushing the liquid toward the edges of the tape. This information can be helpful to others who may be facing similar issues.
