After adjusting with the tape, the screen was perfectly flat.
I was able to adjust the drop stop point of the screen just a hairs breadth above the mantle by using the two holes on the back of the unit on the side with the electrical cord and inserting an allen wrench into it. Some people on the internet say that the drop stop point cannot be adjusted, but that is not true.
