The battery recovered to full capacity even after I charged it in the wrong polarity. I discharged it with a high power 12v lamp for a whole day, shorted the terminals with a car jumper cable once it wouldn't light the light anymore for a few more hours, and charged it back up the proper polarity with a dumb charger set to constant current at 800mA fixed to 13.8v for a few days. It's been going strong ever since with no loss of power.
