About NETGEAR Powerline adapter 2000 Mbps (2) Gigabit Ethernet Ports
Overall Feedback:
92% positive
81% liked the compact and durable design
I compared the build quality of Netgear PLP2000 with Zyxels PLA5456 and found that Zyxels product maintained 33 to 35 MB/s in neighboring room but fell off dramatically with mixed with legacy devices at a distance (3-4 MB/s).
87% found it easy to set up and install
I bought four units and found the installation easy out-of-the-box with no loss of speed compared with direct cable connection to the router.
87% found the network speed to be fast and reliable, but 13% experienced slow speeds
I used the website speedtest.net and got the following speeds with the Netgear adapter: Ethernet connection - 120Mbps / Wi-fi - 82Mbps.
On my baseline network tests, I compared the network speed of the device and found that the average speed was 983Mbps on wired and 583Mbps on 802.11ac (5GHz band).
I got an average speed of 50Mb/s for both local network and internet speed.
The actual throughput is much lower than the advertised speed. I measured specific numbers.
87% praised the extended range and coverage, but 13% experienced dropped signals
I have expanded wifi ranges throughout my home using traditional wifi extenders, which marginally though unpredictably improved coverage and speed.
I am getting 50+ Mb throughout upstairs compared to the 75 or so direct in the family room from the main router, which demonstrates the range and coverage of the powerline-network-adapters.
I had to add network and password to all my devices while trying to connect to extended range.
I tried various extenders but they all claimed to add thousands of square footage in coverage. The best could only provide a weak signal.
I faced issues with the range and coverage of the product. Despite the wifi units being less than 50 feet apart, I was only able to get 2 bars. Tech support never called back as promised and was unable to help me.

Tech support was helpful and it's possible to upgrade firmware or change adapter configuration. There are many settings that can be confusing if not understood.
After using these powerline-network-adapters, my download speed has cut in half, indicating poor build quality of the product.
