About Makita XPH15ZB 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Sub-Compact Brushless Cordless 1/2" Hammer Driver-Drill
67% appreciated the long-lasting battery life, but 33% experienced frequent battery drain
The battery life of this drill is about the same as the previous model.
71% impressed with the drill's durability, while 29% experienced frequent breakdowns
I have been using a Makita drill for over 20 years and it is still working fine, which shows its durability. However, it is not recommended to buy this drill unless it is only for occasional home projects.
I am dissatisfied with the durability of the power-hammer-drills. My first one died after 5 years of heavy use and the second one only lasted for 4 months of light use before it totally crumped. I bought a 2nd replacement in November 2023 but the new one arrived with the same grinding gears and unreliable chuck.
I noticed a flaw in the product that should not have been sold in that condition.
I had to replace the clutch drive on the previous version of the drill and even had to blow out the clutch for the second time, but unfortunately a replacement was not available.
71% found it easy to use, but 29% found it difficult
This drill is more efficient and lasts longer between charges than the previous one.
I installed a rhm metal chuck before using the drill, which made it easier to use.
I am disappointed with the chuck of the drill as it does not turn freely and makes an awful squealing or clicking noise when tightening or loosening.
66% liked the comfortable grip, but 34% found it bulky
I am used to centering a bit with my thumb and forefinger then lightly gripping the chuck with my other fingers while pulling the trigger to begin tightening. However, this drill does not permit this simple and common act. Thus, the ergonomics design of this drill is not user-friendly.
The full-sized hammer drill is too heavy for all-day, overhead drilling.
I bought this drill because of its compact and light design, as well as its hammer drill feature. However, it turned out to be junk.
70% appreciated the low noise level, while 30% found it loud and vibratory
I have noticed that the drill's brushless motor stalls out at moderate resistance and the gearing makes grinding noises.
The chuck does not spin quietly, smoothly, or freely.
I used the drill-driver-hammer drill for only four months of light use before it crumped. The main gears gave out and the chuck was also flaky, making it not worth replacing.
70% found the hammer effective, while 30% experienced variable results
I have noticed that the new drill lasts longer between charges than the old one, making it more efficient.
I bought a second replacement in November 2023 but it arrived with the same grinding gears and unreliable chuck, which was the last straw.
I am disappointed with the drill's performance. Since October 2022, it has become junk. The brushless motor stalls out at any moderate resistance, heats up really hot, and the gearing makes grinding noises.
79% liked the lightweight and portable design
I chose this Makita drill because it is compact and light, and has a hammer drill feature.
79% impressed with the powerful motor
I compared the power and speed of the Milwaukee 12V drill-driver-hammer drill with my old Makita 18v subcompact drill-driver-hammer drill and found the Milwaukee drill to be more powerful, robust and certain.
